‘I Want My Hero’s Moment’: Maya Hawke on the End of ‘Stranger Things’ and Her New Album
ROLLING STONE – The actress-singer talks about leveling up and proving herself as the child of celebrities
IF YOU WANT Stranger Things spoilers, don’t ask Maya Hawke. “I’m of no use there,” the 24-year-old confidently says on Zoom, from a house her mom, Uma Thurman, rented in Sag Harbor, New York. “My character doesn’t have a ton of spoil-y story points. I’m comic relief.” Hawke — whose father is Ethan Hawke — plays Robin Buckley, the charming, closeted band geek who fends off monsters with her sidekick Steve Harrington (Joe Keery). But when she’s not saving the town of Hawkins, Hawke is also a musician with a lush new folk album, Moss, out Sept. 23. “All I really want out of a record is permission to make another one,” she says. “I just want people to like it enough.”You’re releasing this album on the heels of the latest season of Stranger Things. Do you usually work at this quick pace?
You’re talking to someone who was just like [whiny voice], “I need a vacation!” But I have a super-overactive brain. I have an anxious desire to prove myself that will never go away, so I always want to be working harder and doing more than my perceived opponent that doesn’t exist.Does that desire to prove yourself come from the fact that you’re the daughter of two celebrities?
Maybe that’s part of it. I have no idea who I would be if I was somebody else. I feel like the only way to handle the nepotism thing — which definitely gives you massive advantages in this life — is, you will get chances for free, but the chances will not be infinite; so you have to keep working and do a good job. If you do a bad job, the chances will stop. That’s my ethos.

NME – Flying high with the ‘Stranger Things’ star and indie-folk troubadour
“I don’t understand how kids watch Stranger Things,” says Maya Hawke, eyes widening at the thought of young minds deciphering the sci-fi hit’s wacky universe. She’s not shocked because of the increasingly dark turns the show is taking, but because of the complex storylines that weave throughout the series. “It’s so confusing!”
Hawke has been a part of TV’s biggest franchise since season three when she joined the cast as rambling ice cream waitress – and fledgling sidekick to Steve Harrington – Robin Buckley. In just two seasons, she’s seen some of the series’ most iconic moments – from the apocalyptic Battle Of Starcourt Mall, or the fight against creepy, vengeful villain Vecna in this month’s season four finale.
“Everything goes so bad,” she sighs, remembering the grim way the show left things. “It’s so sad about Max [spoiler: Sadie Sink’s plucky highschooler is now in a coma]. It’s devastating and awesome but also like… ‘what?!’”
Maya has been nominated for the Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Series (Drama) award for the 2022 Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards! Stranger Things have received nine nominations in total. A big congratulations to Maya and the cast and crew!

Maya Hawke Joins Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson in Yale’s ‘The Kill Room’ (Exclusive)
THR – Maya Hawke is set to appear onscreen alongside her mother, Uma Thurman, for the very first time, The Hollywood Reporter can reveal. Hawke has been cast in Yale Entertainment’s dark comedic thriller The Kill Room, also starring Samuel L. Jackson and Joe Manganiello.
The Stranger Things and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star has been added to the cast alongside other newly unveiled names, including Debi Mazar (Goodfellas, Little Man Tate, Entourage) and Larry Pine (Succession, The Royal Tenenbaums, Moonrise Kingdom).
From writer Jonathan Jacobson and director Nicol Paone, The Kill Room is set to begin shooting this spring in New Jersey and New York. Yale’s recently launched sales and distribution banner, Great Escape, will handle international sales and co-rep the U.S. rights with ICM Partners in Cannes.
The Kill Room centers around a hitman, Reggie (Manganiello), his boss (Jackson), an art dealer (Thurman) and their money laundering scheme that accidentally turns the hitman into an overnight avant-garde sensation, forcing her to play the art world against the underworld.
Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman and Jon Keeyes are producing under their Yale Productions banner alongside Anne Clements of Idiot Savant Pictures, Paone, Thurman, Dannielle Thomas and Jason Weinberg from Untitled Entertainment, as well as William Rosenfeld of Such Content. Executive producers include Robert Kapp, Scott Levenson, Jason Kringstein, Richard Switzer, Ian Niles, Philip W. Shaltz, Bradley Pilz, Michael J. Rothstein, Jesse Korman, Jeffrey Tussi, as well as Michael and Jackie Palkovicz.

Netflix has announced that Stranger Things has been renewed for a fifth and final season. This announcement was made along with the season four release date (which will be split in two parts).

On Thursday, Netflix announced that Stranger Things season 4 will be split in two parts. Volume 1 will premiere on May 27, and volume 2 will be released on July 1.
‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Will Be Split in Two Parts, Premiere Dates Set for Both
VARIETY – Netflix revealed Thursday the long-awaited fourth season of “Stranger Things” will be split into two parts — and you won’t have to wait long for them to debut.
“Stranger Things 4” Volume 1 will premiere May 27, with Volume 2 to follow on July 1, creators Matt and Ross Duffer, credited as the Duffer Brothers, said in a letter to fans posted on Netflix’s blog. That letter also included the huge news that the show has been renewed for a fifth and final season.
“With nine scripts, over 800 pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, ‘Stranger Things 4’ was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one. Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the results, and we can’t wait to share it with you,” the Duffer Brothers wrote.
They continued: “Given the unprecedented length, and to get it to you as soon as possible, Season 4 will be released in two volumes. Volume One will release on May 27; Volume Two will release five weeks later on July 1. So that’s the good news. It’s coming soon. And it’s better than ever. It’s also the beginning of the end.”
Here’s the official description for “Stranger Things 4”: “It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time — and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”
